Manual Lymph Drainage

Gila Koch, a professional massage therapist since 1992, also offers Manual Lymph Drainage - a gentle yet powerful technique that supports lymphatic flow as well as providing deep relaxation.

WHAT IS MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE (MLD)?

Manual Lymph Drainage is a gentle technique using slow, rhythmic motion to enhance flow of lymph throughout the body. The technique works to encourage intake of lymph into lymph capillaries that lie just beneath the surface of the skin, as well as stimulating lymph nodes to improve flow.

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?

It’s best to think of MLD as its own technique. It does not work deeply on muscles, nor does it simply “tickle” the skin. MLD involves gentle movements of the skin along the pathways that lymph naturally flows.

BENEFITS OF MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE

Among the benefits are

  • improve lymphatic capillary uptake (reduce swelling)

  • improve lymphatic flow (helps speed up recovery)

  • helps redirect flow of lymphatic fluid around blocked areas (eg, after lymph node is removed or compromised)
